Domain Names

What is a Domain Name?

A domain name is like a street address for the Internet, and is unique to your website, allowing you to advertise your domain name to your community.

Why Would I Want One?

You do not necessarily need a domain name. Your website can be reached through www.SportsTG.com, or generally through your governing body's website.

If you want people to be able to go directly to your site you have three options:

1.  Use the standard address which will begin with www.SportsTG.com/

2.  Purchase your own unique domain name and arrange your domain to redirect to your SportsTG site - For further information on this, please see our Redirecting a Private Domain to a SportsTG Website article

3.  Create a shorter/unique SportsTG subdomain - see: Sub-domains: yourclub.SportsTG.net below SportsTG sub-domains do not require a purchase and can also make it easier to advertise your web site.

Domain Name Redirection (as per Option 2 above)

For information on redirecting a domain name to a SportsTG website, please see our see our Redirecting a Private Domain to a SportsTG Website article

Sub-domians: yourclub.SportsTG.net  (as per Option 3 above)

Website editors have the ability to assign a SportsTG.net domain to their site automatically – for example, yourclubname.SportsTG.net.

When compared to the long and complex SportsTG URL’s you often find in your browser when navigating your website, this shorter web address (URL) can greatly assist in the promotion of your website to your members and supporters.

Assigning a SportsTG.net sub domain to your site

Log in to your website's Site Administration Control Panel (back-end) as a website editor.

Click on the Domain Name icon.

What sub domains will be available?

At this stage you’ll be able to assign a domain name with the yourclub.SportsTG.net extension, where you’ll be able to select the prefix (e.g. 'yourclub') for your domain.

Note: Some sports already offer their own sport-specific domain names – e.g. leaguenet.com.au (RubgyLeague), ridenet.com.au (Motorcycling) etc. We encourage you to contact your sport’s governing body to find out more information about any such domains that may be available.
